This Voice Extension is for color Macs. It won't hurt anything if you execute it on a Mac that doesn't support color, but it also won't do anything, except beep once. Any System release that supports color, supports VoiceARoo.
Description: To switch the number of colors and color mode of any monitor.
The first example switches the monitor with the menubar to 256 Colors.
The second example switches the monitor with the menubar to Black & White.
The third example switches the number 2 monitor to Millions of Colors.
VoiceARoo requires two parameters, and accepts one optional third parameter. Parameters are separated by commas. This means at least two commas are required, the first to separate the voice extension command name (VoiceARoo) and the Bit Depth, and the second to separate the Bit Depth and the Color Mode. Spaces in the parameter list are ignored. If two parameters are not supplied, VoiceARoo beeps once and exits without doing anything. Additional parameters beyond the third parameter are ignored, though VoiceARoo will proceed normally if the first two parameters are valid.
VoiceARoo does NOT change the color settings used when you first turn on your Mac. If you want to permanently change the color settings used when you first turn on your Mac, use the Monitors Control Panel.
Parameters:
Bit Depth = a number specifying the requested number of bits.
1 bit = Black & White.
2 bit = 4 shades of gray.
4 bit = 16 colors or shades of gray.
8 bit = 256 colors or shades of gray.
16 bit = thousands of colors or shades of gray.
32 bit = millions of colors or shades of gray.
Not all video cards and monitors support all bit depths. Most do NOT support 16 bit mode. Some support 32 bit mode. These last two modes are also known as "Direct Color" modes.
Color Mode = the word Color or the word Mono.
VoiceARoo actually just looks at the first character of the second parameter. If it's an upper or lower case C, VoiceARoo assumes you want color turned on. If the first character is anything else, VoiceARoo assumes you want Monochrome (shades of gray rather than different colors).
Monitor Index = a number from 0 to 6, representing a specific monitor connected to your Mac. This third parameter is optional; if you don't supply a Monitor Index parameter when you use VoiceARoo, your main monitor (the one with the menu bar) will be used. Most people will probably never use the Monitor Index parameter. Those of you with multiple monitors, however, may find the Monitor Index parameter useful; with it you can specify which monitor has its color settings changed. A value of 0 specifies that the main monitor be used (though I can't imagine anyone specifying a Monitor Index of 0, as just leaving out the third parameter has the same effect). A value of 1 to 6 specifies that the command applies to the monitor numbered 1 to 6. You can determine the monitor index number to use for your specific monitors by opening the Monitors Control Panel. In each "little monitor" you will see a number. This is the number to pass to VoiceARoo in the third parameter. If you supply a number that doesn't correspond to a monitor connected to your Mac, VoiceARoo will use the main monitor. VoiceARoo only looks at the first character of the third parameter.
